AdvanceTEC Completes Process Tool Installation at the City University of New York’s Advanced Science Research Center

Successful project highlights AdvanceTEC technical strength and team approach

Richmond, VA, October 26, 2015 – AdvanceTEC, a leader in cleanroom design, construction and process tool installation, today announced that it has completed the cleanroom process tool installation for the City University of New York’s (CUNY) Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC). Located on the south end of the City College campus in Upper Manhattan, the ASRC is a part of CUNY’s decade-long commitment to becoming a national leader in visionary scientific research of vital, real-world consequence.

The process tool installation project follows AdvanceTEC’s successful construction of ASRC’s cleanroom facilities. AdvanceTEC was selected for the complex process tool installation project due to their proven performance during the cleanroom construction phase, exhibited expertise with 3D BIM modeling and coordination, and superior execution “team” approach to the project.

“The installation of our process tool set at ASRC was completed on schedule, on budget, and exceeded our expectations,” commented Dr. Jacob Trevino, NanoFabrication facility director at the City University of New York. “The success of this project is a direct result of the technical and team leadership provided by AdvanceTEC. They leveraged their advanced 3D BIM modeling, engineering and design capabilities, and coupled it with an execution approach that fully engaged CUNY staff and AdvanceTEC’s subcontractors on the base cleanroom project.”

“The successful completion of the tool install at the ASRC is a due to the dedication and expertise of the full project team,” noted Bryan Phelan, AdvanceTEC managing partner and director of sales, marketing and preconstruction services. “We were able to build on the strong, working relationships with CUNY staff and our subcontractor partners developed during the construction of the cleanroom facilities, and hit the ground running on the tool installation. Together, as a team, we delivered a project that we can all be proud of – on schedule, on budget, and surpassing expectations. My thanks go out to the full project team.”

The process tool installation completed by AdvanceTEC was a turn-key design build project, including:

  • Process utility matrix development and review of all base systems and utilities needs of the nanotech tool set
  • Engineering, design, and complete intelligent 3D BIM model, which was fully coordinated for construction
  • Code compliance, life-safety evaluation
  • Process tool procurement, and on-site FAT (factory acceptance tests) at the process tool OEM site prior to shipment
  • Rigging, setting, installation, and final hook-up of all process tools
  • High purity piping and complete spec gas systems, ultra-high purity water system and distribution, and clean build protocol leadership and enforcement
  • Complete construction, including start-up, test & balance, commissioning, and final certification

About City University of New York’s (CUNY) Advanced Science Research Center
The new CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) is a University-wide venture that elevates CUNY’s legacy of scientific research and education through initiatives in five distinctive, but increasingly interconnected disciplines: Nanoscience, Photonics, Structural Biology, Neuroscience and Environmental Sciences. Led by Dr. Gillian Small, Vice Chancellor for Research and the ASRC’s executive director, the center is designed to promote a unique, interdisciplinary research culture. Researchers from each of the initiatives work side by side in the ASRC’s core facilities, sharing equipment that is among the most advanced available.
