Richmond Cleanroom Design/Build Firm Wins Experts’ Choice Award For Best Facility

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Controlled Environments Magazine awarded its top prize, the 2006 Controlled Environments Experts’ Choice Award for Best Facility, to Richmond area cleanroom designer AdvanceTEC, LLC yesterday. The prize was awarded for AdvanceTEC’s work on the Naval Research Laboratory Institute for Nanoscience.

“AdvanceTEC was noted for its high level of expertise in design, construction, and materials selection for four cleanroom zones at the facility.” explained Patrick Murphy, president of Vicon Publishing, Inc., parent company of Controlled Environments Magazine.

Darrell King, Laboratory Manager at the Naval Research Laboratory added, “AdvanceTEC met and exceeded the three major specifications for acoustics, EMI, and vibration, and provided clearly superior products for no price differential.”

The Naval Research Laboratory Institute for Nanoscience will house top government research in nanotechnology (dealing with materials no bigger than a billionth of a meter). Nanotechnology is often considered the most exciting and fastest growing fields in science today, dealing with electronics, chemistry, and biology, with applications in the industries of defense, communications, and medicine, among others. The Institute for Nanoscience is located in Washington, DC.

“We’re excited to receive the Experts’ Choice Award,” said Tim Loughran, the managing partner of AdvanceTEC, LLC. “This is truly a milestone for the company and we hope to continue the excellence we’ve demonstrated at NRL. This is such an important, fascinating field, and we’re glad to be a part of it.”

AdvanceTEC has also been recognized by nanotech industry magazine Small Times, awarded by the Greater Richmond Technology Council, and featured as Rising 25, in a review of the top 25 fastest growing businesses in the Richmond area, sponsored by the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and KPMG LLP.

AdvanceTEC is a cleanroom and laboratory designer and builder specializing in the field of nanotechnology. It has designed and built over 2 million square feet of cleanroom space—from Class 1 to 100,000. With notable partners like the US Navy and NASA, they’ve become well-known in the microelectronics and life science fields.

Some of the Richmond, Virginia company’s recent noteworthy projects include the Brookhaven National Laboratories Center for Functional Nanomaterials, Norfolk State University’s class 100 R&D Nanotech Facility, the University of Maryland’s Kim Engineering Building and Duke University’s Fitzpatrick Center.
